The First 24 Hours: Critical Tattoo Aftercare
Keep the Bandage On as Directed
Your tattoo artist will cover your fresh tattoo with a bandage or protective wrap. This barrier protects the area from bacteria, dirt, and friction.

• Leave the bandage on for 2–6 hours, or as instructed
• Do not remove it too early
• Avoid touching the tattoo with unwashed hands

This first step in aftercare after tattooing is crucial for preventing infection.

Gently Clean the Tattoo
Once the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo:

• Use lukewarm water
• Choose a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap
• Clean using clean hands only (no sponges or cloths)
• Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.

Apply a Thin Layer of Aftercare Product
After cleaning and drying:

• Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare ointment or unscented moisturizer
• Avoid petroleum-heavy products unless recommended by your artist
• Less is more—over-application can clog pores
• This step keeps the skin hydrated and supports healing.

Days 2–7: Supporting the Healing Process
